On the trail of the billy goat
The picturesque wine town of Deidesheim belongs to the heart of the Palatinate wine region. Here everything revolves around wine and tourism as the most important economic factors. The historic town centre has been designated a monument zone since 1991 - it is considered one of the most important cultural monuments in the Bad Dürkheim district.
Due to the difficult traffic areas with winding alleys and cobblestones, it was a challenge for city concepts, Heidelberg to open up this sensitive inner city area as a barrier-free experience for everyone. The tourist guidance system designed for this purpose was produced by meng, based on the rohr+fläche signage system. It convinces with a cautious colour scheme based on historical guidelines. As a significant recognition feature on all system components, the decision was made in favour of the billy goat pictogram, which also connects the two theme routes of history and leisure. The billy goat has had a special significance for Deidesheim for over 600 years. When the neighbouring municipality of Lambrecht was granted grazing rights on Deidesheim territory in 1404, from then on it had to pay annually with a billy goat, which was traditionally auctioned off in front of the town hall. To this day, the billy goat auction takes place in Deidesheim on Tuesdays after Whitsun.
